Managed Power Distribution minimizes disruption and downtime

Managed Power Distribution

Dolce Vita IT Solutions routinely uses DATTO cloud-managed networking and power distribution. The DATTO managed power distribution is extremely helpful in being able to not only provide for on-demand power cycling of network equipment like switches and other components - it allows us to automate this process.

Automated Power Distribution

Via automation we can configure specific conditions on a power distribution unit (PDU) which allows for specific network components to automatically be power cycled. If we configure the PDU to ping google.com (or several other websites), and those websites suddenly appear (to the PDU) to have gone offline for a specified period of time, we configure specific actions to be taken by the outlets on the PDU: i.e. power off Outlet 1 (with the cable modem) for 10 seconds, Outlet 2 (with the firewall) for 10 seconds, and the switches on other outlets in a specific order.

Client Impacts

Educational client (250+ users) - During electrical storms in central Oklahoma, some of power grid as well as Cox Communications systems went down. Historically this type of outage would require that the modem and firewall be manually power cycled. Because of the DATTO Power Distribution Units (PDU) and their configuration, the PDU automatically detected the Cox outage and then proceeded to power cycle the network equipment in the appropriate order, thus bringing the Internet back online automatically and with no staff intervention.
